Start politely when you have a question

In class, 질문 있어요 means “I have a question.” You can add 선생님 to address your teacher: 선생님, 질문 있어요. The sentence is short and practical. Use a calm tone and wait for a pause so you do not speak over someone else. The right moment makes the same words easier to understand.

Ask someone to repeat a direction

다시 한번 말해 주세요 means “Please say that one more time.” 다시 means again, 한번 means once, and 말해 주세요 is a polite request to say it. It is useful when you missed an instruction. You can pair it with 천천히 말해 주세요 (“Please speak slowly”) if you need a slower pace.

Check what a word means

무슨 뜻이에요? asks “What does it mean?” This is useful when you hear an unfamiliar word. If you do not understand a whole explanation, 잘 모르겠어요 lets someone know you are not sure. It is okay to ask a follow-up question; the aim is to make the lesson clear, not to pretend you understood.

Ask about homework

숙제가 있어요? means “Is there homework?” 숙제 is homework and 있어요 asks whether something exists or is available. Listen for an answer such as 네, 있어요 (Yes, there is) or 아니요, 없어요 (No, there isn’t). Notice how the same 있어요 / 없어요 pattern can be used for many useful questions.

Practise a short classroom exchange

Imagine you missed the page number. Say 선생님, 질문 있어요. Then ask 다시 한번 말해 주세요. If a new word is confusing, ask 무슨 뜻이에요? Practising these lines in a low-pressure lesson makes it easier to use them with a real teacher or classmate.
